Toyota has announced that the new GR Corolla will be unveiled on Thursday, March 31.
The introductory image shows a vent in the fender, gr badge and “GR-Four” badge indicating that it will have all-wheel drive. A leaked page on Toyota’s website confirms this and suggests that it will have 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
A live stream of the revealing event will be available on Vimeo.

UPDATE 31/3/22: Reddit users discovered a page on Toyota’s website (which has been taken down) showing photos and specs of the GR Corolla ahead of the official launch scheduled for later today. There’s also a video that includes an audio snippet of the turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine, 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque — more than this engine generated in the GR Yaris sold overseas. Check back later for more details about this exciting new car.

The wait is nearing its end for Toyota’s entry into the hot hatchback circuit, as the company has announced that the new GR Corolla will make its official debut on Thursday, March 31. The introductory photos show the GR badge of the new performance model, for Gazoo Racing, the vent in the fenders and the “GR-Four” badge indicating that it will share four-wheel drive with the track-inspired GR Yaris.

The Corolla is also expected to use the GR Yaris’ 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, which produces 257 horsepower. If that number stays the same for the U.S. spec car, it would put the Corolla in the hunt with the 275-horsepower Hyundai Veloster N, the 241-horsepower Volkswagen Golf GTI and the 271-horsepower Subaru WRX. We think the six-speed manual gearbox will be standard equipment, with a dual-clutch automatic transmission that could be an option.

We expect the GR model to be based on the Corolla’s hatchback body styling, but having an extra vent, scooter, wheels and larger tires will ensure it looks neater and slimmer than the standard model.

Toyota will live stream the car’s launch on the Vimeo on Thursday, March 31, starting at 9:30 p.m. eastern time. Check back here for all the details about the GR Corolla, which will go on sale in the United States later this year.
