The Fisker Ocean is an EV you may not have heard of, but you may also want to.

Fisker, led by legendary automotive designer Henrik Fisker, is expected to start offering his new EV, the Fisker Ocean, by the end of 2022.

After launching Fisker Ocean in the U.S. last year, the automaker is now targeting Europe. The automaker announced in MWC 2022, that the car will make its way to selecting the European market.

In the UK, the fisker Ocean Sport base starts at £34,990 (about AU$46,000, AU$64,000) and offers a 275km range using WLTP standard and front-wheel drive. U.S. specifications for the Sport claim a time of 0-60 mph of 6.9 seconds and a maximum horsepower of 275 horses – so the hope is that the European variant will at least be close to these numbers.

For those who want more power, range and speed, the Fisker Ocean Extreme promises a 390-mile range, dual-engine AWD (all-wheel drive) and 550 horsepower.

Its 0-60 mph time drops to just 3.6 seconds, and Fisker says that the car’s solar panels can increase the range by up to 2,000 miles per year under the right conditions (although those in the UK will likely see much less thanks to the near- permanently overcast weather.

Building a European presence

Fisker is building 47 prototypes of the Ocean and is expanding its presence in Europe with a brand experience center in Munich, Germany – the first hub on the continent. The facility is in addition to Fisker Magic Works in the UK, which develops special versions of the company’s vehicles.

The automaker says its warranty is unmatched in the industry, with a basic warranty of six years/100,000 km and a powertrain and warranty of ten years/160,000 km.

If you own a Fisker Ocean in Europe, the company will pick up the car at your home for maintenance or can send a mobile service unit if you are away.

It’s encouraging to meet Henrik Fisker, who has an excellent track record of automotive design but has a distinguished history of running companies to build them, expanding in Europe and introducing new vehicles there.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen electric vehicle startups burst into flames with initial excitement and then quickly return to expectations when the reality of producing thousands of vehicles is laid out.

Fisker Ocean promises to offer a significant range and quality at an affordable price, so the company’s success is a good thing for electric car lovers around the world.
