The car updates the classic look and paint color for the current GT. It will be on display at the New York auto show next week.
The Ford GT has a long-standing relationship with the New York Auto Show: the original GT40 prototype made its debut there in 1964.
This year, Ford will introduce the new Heritage Edition, the 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Edition, at the show. It updates the classic look and style for the current GT. Updated carbon fiber and Alcantara Ebony combine with Holman Moody Gold yellow and burgundy, and years can be found around the car.
This is the ninth Heritage Edition GT ford has built since 2006. Only for customers who use the approved GT, the car will begin deliveries later this spring.
Ford is keeping nostalgic for its 56-year-old Le Mans triumph with a new GT Heritage Edition limited edition. The GT will be on display at the New York auto show next week along with one of the Holman Moody Ford GT40 Mk II which won the top three spots in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966. Ferrari won’t have a booth at this year’s New York screening, so the best thing you can do to reminisce about the historic race is the 2019 film Ford vs. Ferrari.
Ford unveiled its original Ford GT40 prototype at the New York show in 1964, so it’s fitting that the 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Edition will make its public debut at this year’s show. It will provide many visual cues to guide racing fans back to 1966. The most obvious is the exclusive Holman Moody Gold yellow and red, which is accented by the Oxford White circles that display the number five on the door, hood and rear wing.
The new GT of course has many features that are unprecedented on the 1966 model, such as the “striking” glossy carbon fiber components and the Ebony Alcantara-upholstered carbon fiber seats with gold stitching. You’ll be able to see some carbon fiber exposed on the 20-inch wheels, front splitter, side sills, mirrors, engine wind doors and rear diffusers, Ford said. Other visual details linking Ford’s 2022 car to the car from 1966 include a blurry circle showing the number of years and made of carbon fiber on the door panels. Alcantara ebony can also be found on pillars, head pads and steering wheel.
Getting in the driver’s seat only underlines the new version’s connection to the 1966 winners, as there are dual-clutch gear shifters behind the steering wheel that match the holman Moody yellow on the outside. There are also gold ornaments found throughout the interior, on the dashboard and the X-splint of the chair, among other places.
Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager, said: “Of all the Ford GT Heritage Edition presentations we’ve done, the not-to-be-missed signature yellow and red theme of the Holman Moody Heritage Edition is an epic tribute to the end of our 1966 Le Mans, Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager, said. In a statement. “Inspired by one of the most popular Ford GT40 race cars, this latest Ford GT celebrates the know-how and innovative ability of the Holman Moody racing team to outpace global rivals.”
The Holman Moody GT will be the ninth in the Heritage Edition GT series, starting in 2006 but then discontinued until 2017. Since then, Ford has produced at least one Heritage Edition GT per year, with the last two being 2022. (The Alan Mann Heritage Version and the Prototype Heritage Version ’64) are still in production.
Ford said the Holman Moody version will be the final Heritage Edition for the 2022 model year and that it will only be offered in “extremely limited” quantities. If that sounds tempting, know that Ford will only take orders from approved Ford GT customers, and they can expect to receive three specially painted cars later this spring.
